Self-Care Excerpt from Don't Weight

Choose ACTION, not ANXIETY

You probably picked up this book because you wish you could include healthy eating and reasonable exercise in your life. Most people simply translate these behaviors into the concept of weight loss. In this book I do not make that assumption. When your lifestyle gets healthier, I do not know what will happen with your weight. I do know that you will be healthier and you will feel better about yourself and your body. These are positive outcomes independent of your weight.

Watching your weight is an ANXIETY NOT an action.

I encourage you to:

  • Focus on self-care, independent of your weight.
  • Choose the ACTIONS you can take toward self-care.
  • Build a healthy lifestyle that meets your needs (both physical and emotional.)
  • Learn problem-solving so that you can continually, and comfortably, adjust your lifestyle.
  • Find motivation based on enjoyment and positive attitudes.
  • Work toward self-acceptance and self-care.
  • Pay attention to how you LIVE, not what you weigh!
