Self-Care Excerpt from Don't Weight

A Few Moments To Relieve Stress

When you take a few moments to take care of yourself in some way, you are more likely to be able to cope with the challenges life brings. Just the relaxation and extra oxygen provided by this exercise may change your attitude toward the challenges that you face. Feeling better makes you more hopeful. There are lots of ways you can help yourself feel better even if you have very little time.

  • Take a moment to put on hand cream in the middle of a busy day.
  • Take two moments and give yourself a hand massage while you are at it.
  • Take a five-minute walk around the building or around the block. Breathe. Feel the outside air move past your face. Notice the power of your leg muscles as they propel you forward. Moving through time and space under your own power can be very therapeutic.

You get the idea. Do something to affect how you feel and you have changed the most important factor in coping with stress, your attitude and your empowerment. Taking care of yourself is worth the time. It gives you more time and energy to take care of everything else in your life.
