Solutions to Swimming Problems!

I would like to share a set of solutions with you. As I mention each solution, you will be able to tell what very real problem might prevent a person from going to the pool for fitness. If you do not have any of these problems, then you will not need to try these solutions. If you find that you DO experience these problems and you find that some of these solutions might be useful, remember these ideas and try them out.


  • Buy a suit that fits, and has the support and coverage you need. Yes, the most common problem that gets in the way of water exercise is having a good bathing suit. With the advent of the Internet, you WILL be able to find the suit you want. You no longer have to rely on local stores. There are businesses on the Internet that specialize in bathing suits of ALL sizes. You are entitled to have a comfortable suit. Go get it for yourself!
  • Get a pair of water shoes. These shoes are great for protecting your feet from injury or infection. Often the no slip surface around a pool deck is very rough and can actually hurt the bottom of your feet. Another benefit of wearing water shoes is that you won't have to worry about catching athlete's foot. There is another function of water shoes that I only learned about this year. You know those big black stripes on the bottom of the pool? If you ever feel those stripes with your feet, you will find them to be extremely slippery. One of my clients was water walking in the shallow end of the pool. She stepped on a black stripe and her foot slipped out from under her. Because she was in shallow water, she fell with enough force to badly hurt her knee. Whether you choose to wear shoes or not, be careful stepping on those slippery black stripes in the shallow end of the pool.
