Workout with Friends

Whenever possible, whether you are walking, doing aerobics, swimming, using weight machines, using home fitness equipment or videos, try to workout with a friend. If you cannot actually workout with a friend, get a workout phone buddy that you can talk to about your fitness plans and problems. People who workout with a buddy are much more likely to continue to workout.

If you have a workout buddy who works with you in person, then on days when you might not workout on your own, you may workout because your buddy is expecting you. Canceling your workout takes more than just a thought. It takes a phone call to your buddy. That may be just enough to cause you to workout instead of canceling.

If you have a phone buddy, on days when you might not workout on your own, you may workout so that you have something good to talk about when he/she calls. This kind of encouragement and accountability is very helpful for sustaining motivation.

Even though it is statistically true that people who workout with a buddy are more likely to continue in their fitness activities, some people are more simply comfortable working out on their own. If that is you, if you prefer to workout alone, that is fine. You will need to implement problem-solving skills and overcome the obstacles to working out on your own. This is an achievable task. It is a task you CAN do. There are many reasons that fitness is worth your effort.
